Life at Stanford

Night Out.jpgmy 2nd floor girls.jpgcostumes.jpgnerds.jpg

Hey everyone! Sorry it has been so long since I have written but I have been so insanely busy since I started school! I’ve had to adjust to living without my parents (I keep my freezer in my dorm room stocked with Amy’s), all of the homework, classes, new friends, etc. There is just so much to do in college and so little time. I live in an all freshman co-ed dorm but on an all girls floor. I love the students here…everyone is so smart and amazing! We just had a halloween party this weekend, and we dress up every week with a different theme for dorm meetings. Thats why in some of the pictures I am posting we are all wearing costumes (Yes, we are dressed up as nerds in the last pictures. Contrary to what you might think, Stanford students do not usually look like that). I want to say more but I have to go write a 15 page paper, so I am going to post a bunch of pictures of me at college and hopefully you can get a feel for how everything is.

I just checked out this site for the first time today. I’ve always loved your food. This is a really nicely designed web site. Very cool touch to have Amy featured so prominently on the site, really adds a personal touch. After all this time of wondering who Amy is, that is too cool! It’s so cool to see the many photos and the shots at Stanford. Good luck in school Amy. I’m a college graduate myself and in a strange way I envy you, going through the whole college experience. Cheers again to the whole Berliner family, love this site, your food and I wish more success to you in the future. I’m about to go to Whole Foods to stock up on all your vegan friendly soups, “chicken” noodle and my personal fav, your organic fire roasted southwestern vegetable soup, (Love the vegan pizza 2).

    Many Blessings!

    Hi Amy,

I am a first-year college student in Boston, and just like you, I’ve been adjusting to living without my parents and avoiding the cafeteria food (my freezer is stocked up with Amy’s entrees! I love the tofu vegetable lasagna; tofu, brown rice, and vegetable bowl; and the teriyaki bowl).

It’s cool to see another college student having a great time at college as well – I hope you continue to have great experiences at Stanford!

Hi Amy :) I’m glad you’re enjoying college aside from the cafeteria food…haha. I’m a grad student myself and the whole reason I’m here is because I loved college so much that I didn’t really want to leave. We are very lucky here at Miami University though in that we have an entire menu option dedicated to vegetarian and vegan dishes, and a convenience store that sells organic stuff (and Amy’s). It looks like you’re bonding and making great friends, and that’s the most important part. Good luck on that paper!

That’s interesting that Miami University caters to vegitarians and vegans, pretty cool. I guess not all the south is against that type of healthy lifestyle. When I go to Texas to visit my relatives outside of Dallas or Austin there really aren’t much vegitarian/vegan choices. I especially miss Trader Joes when I leave Sacramento.

Hi Amy! Terrell & I just looked at your halloween pics — you look cuter than Keira Knightly! Hope to see you for your 19th. Love, C & T

    Hi Amy!

I SEE YOU! and all those pics. *sigh* good times the last couple weeks. I actually wanted to take some time (basically, procrastinating on a pwr paper) to say hi on your blog. HI!

The first time I tried an Amy’s product was on a flight to HW in 2003. I’ve been veg most of my life, so I had to make a special order with the airline. All three meals included in my roundtrip fare were Amy’s! I read the company story on the packaging and thought “How cool is it that there is a company that makes vegetarian food, that is named after a girl born the same year as me?! I wish MY parents had done that!” Oh well.

My question to you Amy, is whether or not you ever had social issues with being a vegetarian. In middle and high school I endured endless questioning from teachers and students. Many people were ruthless with their comments on my food at the lunch table. Was it difficult for you, especially with your association with a meat-free company, to get through school, or to develop an understanding with your peers? SH

    hi amy!
i am so glad that school seems to be going well! i wish all the best for you, and since you are eating your own products i am sure you wont be gaining the freshman 10-15 (like i did, as a veg- go figure!) but anyway, study hard- you are on an amazing path to greatness!

    Amy,
congrats on Stanford! It must be weird to have so many strangers wishing you success ;-b. You’ll do well, you’re smart and you have the drive. Counselors can help with organization too, and there are lots of great books out there as well. Good luck!! (and great costumes!)-Wendy

    Hi Amy,

Your family has pretty much pioneered the vegetarian fast food market and I’m very glad you did. I found “Amy’s Kitchen” on the web while searching for something to eat.

I’m 91and live in a Retirement Home but cannot eat the food that’s prepared here. I can’t tolerate the chlorine in the water or the HFCS in everything made or coated with bread.

I have a tiny kitchen so I needed prepared foods that I could tolerate that would give me variety and that I could enjoy. As I have several problems I find your variety and labeling very helpful.

There is just one thing that could be better. The print at your website is hard for my old eyes to read. Just a little larger would be much better and much appreciated.

BTW I graduated from a 4 yr. college course back in 1937 (70 years ago). College was very different then but educating students was the goal then, as it is now.

Thanks for listening and best wishes for a very happy future. Eunice Richter
